Calcite on Fluorite
Alston Moor District, North Pennines, Cumberland, Cumbria, England, UK
73 x 46 x 33 mm overall
Milky-white, translucent, flattened rhombs of Calcite to 29 x 28 x 12 mm richly and attractively cover purple Fluorite from Alston Moor. Some of the purple Fluorite shows around the edges of the Calcite. The Fluorite has a rich purple fluorescence and the Calcite shows a light pink color. From the A.G. Boynton collection, this is a classic and showy combination specimen from this historic district. Boynton was a mining engineer circa 1910-1920, and City Manager of Boulder City, Nevada in the mid-1940s. He assembled a nice collection of rare specimens from the localities of the 1910s to the 1940s.
