Magnetite
Iron Springs District (Three Peaks), Iron Co., Utah, USA
85 x 56 x 55 mm overall
Sharp, lustrous, dark metallic-gray, somehat intergrown octahedrons of Magnetite to 27 mm totally cover a matrix of solid Magnetite. From the A.G. Boynton collection, this Magnetite is quite free of damage except for the margins, and is a good example from this classic Utah locality. Boynton was a mining engineer circa 1910-1920, and City Manager of Boulder City, Nevada in the mid-1940s. He assembled a nice collection of rare specimens from the localities of the 1910s to the 1940s. Ex. Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas collection.
