$18
Large Cabinet
144 x 16 x 7 mm overall
A lustrous, transparent crystal of Kernite, nearly 5.7 inches long, from the type locality. Kernite is a relatively rare hydrated Na-borate hydroxide with perfect cleavage and a brittle fracture. There are some small amount of white surface alteration (via dehydration) to Tincalconite, but limited by a coating of plastic spray. The crystal cross-section is intact and the ends are matrix influenced, as typical. A nice example from this locality, all but closed to collecting.
