Barite
Cidade Baixa Limestone Quarry, Joao Pessoa City area, Paraiba, Brazil
67 x 50 x 37 mm overall
An exceptional cluster of translucent to gemmy light-golden, thick crystals of Barite partly wrapped in tan matrix. These lustrous Barite crystals are up to 31 mm across, with transparent edges and distinct zoning. The Barite also fluoresces yellow-white under UV illumination. Purchased in Tucson in 1992 from Dr. Reinhard Wagner, a Brazilian professor at the Federal University of Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil. These are not available on the market anymore. It is very difficult to photograph due to all the angles, and is much better in person. There is only one cleaved blade on the reverse, otherwise it is pristine. This is a top-notch, high-quality specimen from this obscure locality.
