Manganoan Calcite
Huanggang Mine, Keshiketeng Co., Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
28 x 21 x 16 mm overall
An unusual pair of fine double-terminated, lustrous, translucent, pink, twinned Calcite crystals, the largest measuring 17 x 16 x 15 mm, both on a bit of matrix. These Calcites have mostly-opaque white phantoms clearly visible both from the side and when looking down the termination. The appearance is somewhat reminiscent of the alien-eyed Erongo Fluorites. I have only seen a few of these from Huanggang, but nothing recently, and this is the only one I have seen that was not a single twinned crystal.
This excellent, undamaged specimen was part of the 2013 Crystalline Treasures (The Mineral Heritage of China) exhibit at the University of Arizona, and is ex. Houran collection.
Fluorescent orange-red in SW.
