Fluorite
Afton Canyon area, Cady Mts., San Bernardino Co., California, USA
$55
Small Cabinet
79 x 57 x 27 mm overall
Lustrous, translucent, light- to medium-green, intergrown octahedrons of Fluorite to 13 mm across, accented with cream-colored Quartz and coatings of fine-grain white secondary Fluorite. California is not known for producing Fluorite, and there are only two localities that produce green (and octahedral!) Fluorites - this locality and the Felix prospect in Azusa; both of these localities are now closed to collecting. This is a neat specimen, with several generations of Fluorite formation, and is free of damage on the face. It is unusual in that it is strongly fluorescent in LW, and less so in SW.
