Rhodochrosite with Pyrite, Quartz and Apatite

Sweet Home Mine, Alma District, Park County, Colorado, USA

Sold
Miniature

57 x 47 x 31 mm overall

A pair of cherry-red rhombs of Rhodochrosite to 12 mm across are nestled within and partly covered with clear Quartz points to 14 mm, some doubly terminated. Brassy, striated Pyrite crystals to 9 mm and some black Tetrahedrite are also nestled within the matrix. Besides the top color of the Rhodos, what really sets this specimen apart is the rich coverage of pale-green, hexagonal, barrel-shaped crystals of Apatite to 3 mm scattered all over the specimen. Apatite is known from the Sweet Home but was not that common. Except for the common cracked Pyrites, this specimen from Nate's Pocket is in exceptional condition, and is much flashier in person.
