Rhodochrosite

24 x 18 x 14 mm overall

A pair of interesting, deep-pink Rhodochrosite crystals to 15 mm. The subparallel growths of these rhombohedral crystals is expressed as stepped faces. The crystals are of top color and are accented by small Pyrite crystals. This specimen is from Butte, a classic US locality from which it is very difficult to obtain good samples. Although the reverse seems to be cleaved, this is a nice thumbnail with Ed Swoboda's original thumbnail mounting and label. It was held back by Ed for nearly 20 years, when I purchased it in the early 1990s for my personal collection.
