Fluorite

Jbel Ayachi, Tounfit Caïdat, Midelt Cercle, Midelt Province, Draa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco

$750
Large Cabinet

117 x 48 x 40 mm overall

This is a really weird Fluorite. The Fluorite has what looks like a trigonal shape like Calcite, with a light violet color, and somewhat greyish-violet, pitted trigonal zoning within the faces. It represents two phases of growth marked by the intensity of color. The first, inner phase, is very deep violet to black, and the second phase is less intensive violet to whiteish. The crystallization shows well defined cube, dodecahedron and octahedron faces, and the darker, triangular zone of the first growth phase on the octahedron faces. The luster is very good, and the largest Fluorite is 20 mm across. A very small lot of these Fluorites were brought to the Bologna, Italy show in 2006 by Ernesto Ossola, and this is one of the best of the find. It is in excellent condition.
