Celestine and Aragonite on Sulphur
Floristella Mine, Valguarnera, Enna Province, Sicily, Italy
71 x 65 x 53 mm overall
Lustrous, glassy to white sprays of blocky Celestine crystals to 18 x 6 mm are nicely perched on bright-yellow Sulphur. Small 1-2 mm clear to white Aragonite crystals are perched on both the Celestine and Sulphur. Although most specimens from this famous Sulphur mine are a mass of incomplete crystals with lots of damage, this showy specimen is in quite good condition. All but a few terminations near one edge are complete. The last of these specimens came out before the late 1950s. From the Paul Edwards collection, which dates to about the mid 1960s, this is a fine specimen displaying a good balance of Sulphur and Celestine.
