Grossular garnet
Cerro de Moka, Sierra de Cruces, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico
32 x 21 x 15 mm overall
A single, sharp, dramatic, well-formed, lustrous, somewhat gemmy crystal of ruby-red Grossular garnet to 13 mm across is perched on a well-trimmed strikingly contrasting white matrix. The matrix is a mixture of fine grained clear to whitish garnets and what is likely Wollastonite. Like all these specimens, this garnet was mechanically excavated without any repairs, and is very excellent condition, with just one small chipped corner on the reverse side, as is normal with these specimens. It displays well from nearly all sides. The piece is excellent for this locality, with great color and aesthetics. Collected December of 1992 by Graham Sutton and Bob Griffis.
