Colorado Fluorite Epimorphs
We are pleased to present this group of top-quality Fluorite on Barite epimorphs after Laumonite from the Cripple Creek District, Teller Co., Colorado. Analyses performed at the Colorado School of Mines confirmed the Barite, and that the precursor mineral is completely gone. Laumontite is the likey original mineral based on morphology and the presumed chemical environment.
About 70 of these unique specimens were brought to Tucson in February. We met the collector when he first arrived, and we were first to see them. This allowed us to highgrade the very best 4 specimens from the lot. These specimens were collected during filming for the Season 4, Episode 4 "Cripple Creek Crystals" episode of Prospectors that aired January 2016. These were collected about a mile underground. It took us a few months to figure out how to properly clean them, and these are the best prepped specimens I have seen from this find.
Although some are giving the locality as Buck Mine, these specimens actually come from the Moffat Tunnel, which is a 2-mile-long access tunnel for mines under Gold Hill, about a mile outside of the town of Cripple Creek.
The number of specimens collected by the mine owner, Jack McGee, was limited in quantity, due to difficulty in accessing the find, and few were of this quality. This is a rare opportunity to own a great Colorado Fluorite specimen.
