Fluorite with Barite after Laumonite
Moffat Tunnel, Cripple Creek District, Teller Co., Colorado, USA
130 x 62 x 45 mm overall
Lustrous, gemmy, lilac-purple Fluorite cubes to 4 mm partly cover a spray of flattend, elongated, tabular, white Barite epimorphs after Laumontite(?). The contrasting colors make for a very aesthetic specimen. The perceived color of these Fluorites varies depending on the color temperature of the lighting, and these photos are a bit more violet than they appear under daylight. They are not strongly fluorescent under UV lighting. This piece is very aesthetic, displays well from three sides (it is flat on the back where it was attached), and is a great example of specimens from this limited discovery. This specimen was collected during filming for the Season 4, Episode 4 "Cripple Creek Crystals" episode of Prospectors that aired January 2016.
