Grossular garnet
Cerro de Moka, Sierra de Cruces, Municipio de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico
70 x 65 x 51 mm overall
This specimen is covered with many partial, contacted garnets as well as several sharp, very gemmy, well-formed, lustrous crystals of ruby-red Grossular garnets to 15 x 8 mm on a well trimmed strikingly contrasting white matrix. The matrix is a mixture of fine grained clear to whitish garnets and what is likely Wollastonite. Like all these specimens, the garnets were mechanically excavated without any repairs, and is very good condition. The piece is quite good for this locality, has nice aesthetics, great color, and much gemmier garnets than is normal for this locality. Collected December of 1992 by Graham Sutton and Bob Griffis.
