Magnetite
Iron Springs District (Three Peaks), Iron Co., Utah, USA
Sold
Small Cabinet
81 x 63 x 55 mm overall
A cluster of lustrous, metallic-silvery-gray, slightly-rounded octahedrons of Magnetite to 29 mm totally cover a matrix of solid Magnetite, accented with traces of lemon-yellow apatite. As the apatite forms first, and is later engulfed by the Magnetite, causing considerable stresses, finding intact Fluorapatites is not common. This is a fine example from this classic Utah locality. Under SW UV, the Apatite fluoresces red.
