Elbaite tourmaline
San Diego Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California, USA

This gemmy and lustrous hot pink Elbaite is from a rarely seen locality, the San Diego Mine. The termination is flat with secondary faces at the corners. Eugene Rynerson mined this in the early 1970s, and he sold very few specimens during his life. This fine Elbaite has just been released by his grandson. Specimens from the San Diego Mine are rarely available, so this is a great opportunity. This mine is adjacent to the Himalaya Mine and they both exploit the same pegmatite dike. In great condition with only a few very trivial dings at the base visible under a 10 power loupe.
